There are a whole lot of people out there that haven’t had the chance to visit one of the top destinations in the world, Florida. There are many reasons behind this and they include the costs, assuming that all it has to offer is Disney and of course that they are “too old” to go. All of this is rubbish and even if you are struggling with costs, there are cheaper ways to do the trip. With this in mind, here are just five of the many reasons to go to Orlando for a vacation!

Disney World

Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Walt D...

Image via Wikipedia

It would be a crime to not include Disney on this list really now wouldn’t it? Disney is a lot bigger than people first think and with four main parks as well as two water parks, an indoor gaming park and a shopping area you would be mad not to consider going to Disney when you are out in Orlando.

Disney is expensive, there is no doubt about that but it is also full of amazing things to do. The kids can meet and live all of their favourite Disney experiences from the movies and adults (believe it or not) can do the same and remember what it was like to be young without worrying about what anyone else thinks about it!

Universal Studios

Many people skip a visit to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in favour of Disney World and this is a big mistake, do both!

Not only can you ride some amazing attractions at these two parks but you can also visit Hogwarts Castle and ride one of the best attractions that has come to Florida in a fair number of years, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey!

SeaWorld

Although SeaWorld is full of attractions that go upside down like some of the other theme parks in Orlando, it is also a great place to discover the life that lives under the sea. Guests can watch shows from a variety of different aquatic performers including killer whales, sea lions, dolphins and even otters!

Guests can also walk through a massive indoor shark tank (can even swim with them if you are brave enough) and feed dolphins and stingrays! I also recommend paying a visit to the bakery near the front of the park, it is heavenly.

Discovery Cove

Deutsch: Die Delfinanlage in der Discovery Cov...

Although SeaWorld also own this park it is a place that is well worth a mention on this top 5 list! If you fancied doing something that crops up in all of the top 10 things to do before you die lists then this is certainly a place for you to think about visiting. Guests have the opportunity to book a slot swimming with a dolphin! Not only do you have the opportunity to feed them in the water and swim with them but you can also get them to do a few tricks too!

Once you have booked your place in the park (only 1,000 people allowed in a day) you can eat and drink as much as you want and enjoy lazy rivers, scuba diving and so much more!

The Nature!

Orlando isn’t just about the theme parks and it is famous for the everglades and the tropical weather than is experienced all year round. Do yourself and your party a favour and book a tour on the everglades to take in all of the wonders that theme park enthusiasts didn’t get close to touching, who knows, you may even spot a wild alligator!

Make sure you consider Florida the next time you are booking a vacation!

Fun and Educational Excursions in Florida

Florida sunset!

Summer breaks and vacations from school for your child don’t always have to be about video games, junk food, and no bedtime; they can also be a great opportunity to expose their young minds to educational and exciting fields of possible career choices for their future. Florida has many great museums, theme parks, and zoos to not only educate and entertain them but also plant the seeds of possible career options.

Science:

Florida is an epicenter for the study of science and is home to the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), the Orlando Science Center, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Daytona. MOSI offers wind generators, the BioWorks Butterfly Garden, the Saunders Planetarium and the IMAX dome theater. The Orlando Science center is a non-profit center that is used to promote public understanding of science and is a great place to take the children for an affordable and educational day in the sunny tourist target of Orlando.
Daytona isn’t just known for its NASCAR races and beaches; it’s also the location of the Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS). MOAS is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and is one of the most educational and interesting centers for science and art in the nation. Anywhere you go in Florida you can visit an educational science center such as MOSI or the Kennedy Space Center and still have just as much fun as Disney or Universal.
Kennedy Space center is one of the most historic locations in not only Florida but the United States as well. The Kennedy Space Center is the NASA run museum of aerospace engineering and science located in Merritt Island, just North of Cape Canaveral. The center attracts tourism all year and has also seen the launch of many shuttles. Only a one hour drive the from the Orlando area the Kennedy Space Center is a great educational trip for every kid that grew up wanting to be an astronaut.

Art:

Art and Art History are becoming increasingly important areas of education that parents like to introduce to their children at an early age. Florida is full of art and culture to learn about at centers such as the world-famous Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg and the Orlando Museum of Art. The Salvador Dali Museum in St. Pete is the second largest collection of original Salvador Dali pieces and is a great introduction to the famous surrealist artist.
The Orlando Museum of Art not only has paintings and sculptures but also houses local and regional art of great significance as well as showcasing architecture and graphic art as well. With a less than $10 entrance fee the Orland Museum of Art is an entertaining and culturally educational excursion at the price of lunch at a small restaurant.

Zoos:

Zoos and theme parks are also a large educational tourist draw for Florida. Florida has Busch Gardens of Tampa Bay, Lowry Park Zoo, Big Cat Rescue, SeaWorld, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. All of these locations offer great insight into the animal kingdom and ocean life for both children and adults to learn about. Busch Gardens and SeaWorld both provide amusement park rides, rollercoasters, and stage performances to partake in. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is just one part of the great Disney experience to be had in the gorgeous Florida weather and features safaris, bird sanctuaries, and even a silverback gorilla sanctuary. Animal Kingdom also has DinoLand USA to educate visitors on the evolution and existence of dinosaurs and the fossils left behind.
Florida isn’t just a rollercoaster of theme parks, water parks, beaches, and sports teams. There is much culture and educational entertainment to be found within its borders. Summer vacations and holidays should be a break from the pressures of school for children but with visits to MOSI, Kennedy Space Center, or the Salvador Dali Museum, the children can remember the importance of their education and also find an enjoyable and entertaining career to pursue later on.
